Professor Lisa Featherstone
CHIEF INVESTIGATOR
Professor Lisa Featherstone is an Australian historian in the School of Historical and Philosophical Inquiry at The University of Queensland. Lisa’s work focuses on sexuality, medicine and the law, with a current focus on sexual violence, including sexual assaults on women and children. She has published widely on sexual crimes, including child sexual abuse and rape in marriage. She is the author of two monographs, Let’s Talk About Sex: Histories of Sexuality in Australia from Federation to the Pill, and Sex Crimes in the 1950s (co-authored with Andy Kaldelfos).

Dr Andy Kaladelfos

Dr Andy Kaladelfos (They/Them) is Senior Lecturer in Criminology in School of Law, Society and Criminology University of New South Wales. Andy is the Co-Convenor of the Gendered Violence Research Network, and a Co-Lead of the Community of Practice in Inclusive Research with Queer, Trans, and Intersex People.

Dr Yorick Smaal

Dr Yorick Smaal is a senior lecturer in history at Griffith University and Deputy Director of the Harry Gentle Resource Centre. Yorick has a deep interest in the personal and institutional conditions that structure experiences of sexual belonging and sexual violence and consults on matters of assault and maltreatment.

Associate Professor Bianca Fileborn
CHIEF INVESTIGATOR
Dr Bianca Fileborn (she/they) is an Associate Professor in Criminology, in the School of Social and Political Sciences, University of Melbourne. Bianca’s award-winning research looks at the intersections between space/place, identity, and experiences of sexual violence, and justice responses to sexual violence. Their recent research includes a focus on victim-centred justice responses to street and public harassment, sexual violence in live music and licensed venue spaces, and LGBTQ+ people’s experiences of sexual violence. They are the author of Reclaiming the night-time economy: unwanted sexual attention in pubs and clubs, and co-author of the forthcoming book Unsilenced: women musicians, gender-based violence, and the popular music industry.

Dr Alana Piper
RESEARCH MANAGER
Dr Alana Piper (she/her) is employed as a Research Manager for the project through the University of Queensland. She has published widely in criminal justice history, with a particular focus on gender issues. With Ana Stevenson, she produced the edited collection Gender Violence in Australia: Historical Perspectives for Monash Publishing in 2019.

Dr Sophie Hindes
RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
Dr Sophie Hindes (they/them) is a Research Associate at RMIT and Research Fellow at The University of Queensland. Sophie is a critical criminologist whose research investigates sexual violence from queer and feminist perspectives. Their PhD dissertation explored queer experiences of negotiating sex beyond conventional sexual consent frameworks. They have also researched and written on street harassment, LGBTQ+ sexual violence, technology-facilitated violence and media responses to the #MeToo movement.
